This Christmas I am flying into DC to see my father and my two siblings I have never met. It wont be my first Christmas as I had from time to time attended dinner and other festivities with friends. But this time is the first with any part of my blood family. It ought to be interesting.
Might as well enjoy it for now, as it is back to work in another month for me.

This is what my mum told me when papa moved out. When it did finally happen months later, it was because he had left Jehovah. I hated him for many years and refused to speak to him. He took to the bottle and remains estranged from most of his family to this day. I took the opportunity to call him when I congratulated him on being a new grandfather last week. I apologised to him for treating him this way. He cried and expressed his sorrow at how everything transpired, but harboured no regrets for leaving the Witnesses. Though it wasn't articulated as such, we both knew who played a huge role in demonising him within the family. My relationship with him remains strained; that fact I am under no illusions regarding such. But I felt that a new door has been opened.
For that I am grateful.
for me, i think it's that the witnesses teach they are god's spokesman.
they represent his "faithful & discreet slave"....and that they alone are expounders of the only truth and that if you disagree with anything they teach, you are considered worse than vomit.. it's unbelievable because these people are wrong so many times, it cannot be excused!.
as a witness, you must accept every viewpoint and if you (and your family) do not accept it all, hook, line and sinker, you are "apostates"!!!.
Coming from a Catholic country, I felt a profound difference. People who were Catholics hardly thought daily about the fact that they were Catholic. Being a Jehovah's Witness you couldn't escape it with the daily text, regular meetings and field service. Witnesses can never escape being Witnesses even for a short period of time without being counselled about missing meetings or being spiritually weak. This is not a religion which is too compatible with leisure. It consumes your life until there is nothing left.

I am disfellowshipped, and I cared when it happened. But now I don't really care much at all. Life has its own problems besides strange religions and their shunning policies.
They lack the quality production apparatus which would go into making a modern film, not to mention qualified and suitable actors. If they did a movie, it would be more of a documentary starring their short haired Jesus with narration. Then their preaching Jesus would segue into a modern scene of Witnesses going door-to-door.

If you don't get actual credits, it doesn't count for anything other than personal bragging rights that you took the same classes that the real students did. If you're going to go through that much trouble, then your efforts are better focused on dropping the pretence and just going to college for real.
Interesting info, thanks! I am doing some reading myself, and from what I have always read, Malcolm left the JWs early on and didn't want anything to do with his father. The fact that he went on a trip with his father alongside with his wife suggests something else. This was less than 4 years before Rutherford died, yet he didn't show up at his dad's funeral. Though it's senseless to endlessly speculate on an answer we could never possibly have more than second or third hand information on, it's quite plausible that the Judge knew that his son had all the dirt and it made sense to maintain some sort of friendly relationship with him.

there had been a lot of excitement building up in the days preceding this event as there were rumors circulating that the society had a very special announcement to make.. after 2 ambiguous talks from 2 bethel speakers, anthony morris iii finally takes the stage and everyone is so thrilled to see him up close or on the big screen behind the stage.

Stripping away titles he has already won is a dubious practice anyway. Can the guy who came in second not feel a sense of awkwardness while counting that particular Tour as one of his 'championships'? It's like finding a penalty that wasn't called with the last few World Cup winners, and then unceremoniously giving the championship to the team that was beat years after the fact. It ruins the integrity of the entire competition when you know there's a chance that the results might be reversed in a few years time. Why didn't they just take blood samples shortly before the race and disqualified him then? It seems to me that they need to revamp their screening process before allowing athletes to compete.
